CMS Approves Temporary Extension SeniorCare Program

On June 15, 2018, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) submitted a SeniorCare waiver renewal application to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The current waiver, which allows Wisconsin to operate the SeniorCare Prescription Drug Assistance Program, is set to expire on December 31, 2018. The new 10-year waiver renewal application would extend SeniorCare through December 31, 2028.

Since CMS is currently reviewing the waiver renewal application, it has granted a temporary extension for the current SeniorCare program through January 31, 2019. The program will continue to operate as it does today. Current SeniorCare members and new applicants who meet the program requirements will continue to be eligible for program services and benefits.

DHS will continue to share additional updates, including the status of the waiver renewal application from CMS, as they become available.
