Prevention Program

Recent changes to Wis. Admin. Code ch. DHS 145 has designated carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CP-CRE) as a reportable condition in Wisconsin, effective July 1, 2018. CRE will be a Category I notifiable condition and should be reported to the patient’s local health officer or to the local health officer’s designee within 24 hours of the identification of a case.

This memo provides clarification and guidance including case definitions, reporting requirements, follow-up recommendations, and links to resources for reporting CRE in accordance with DHS 145, in addition to continued reporting of CRE to NHSN by hospitals and nursing homes.

A new algorithm has been developed to provide a visual for these two reporting requirements.
