FYI / CDC Releases Surgical Site Infection (SSI)
Prevention Guideline

On May 3, 2017, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s, Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) published its Guideline for the Prevention of Surgical Site Infection 2017, in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Surgery journal located at
http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamasurgery/fullarticle/2623725.

According to the CDC, the last version of the guideline was published in 1999 and most recommendations were based on expert opinion in the era before evidence-based guideline methods. This guideline is intended to provide new and updated evidence-based recommendations for the prevention of SSI and should be incorporated into comprehensive surgical quality improvement programs to improve patient safety.
