DATCP announced 13 projects have been selected to receive more than $564,000 in Export Expansion Grants. These grants aim to accelerate the growth of Wisconsin dairy, meat, and crop products and are funded through the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports (WIAE).
Projects could request grant funds for up to two years in duration, with an option to request an additional year. Matching funds are required at 20 percent of the grant award and can be cash or in-kind. Selected projects and work will begin this summer.
DATCP, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), announced that 11 agribusinesses will be receiving $110,000 in International Market Access Grants (IMAG). These grants were made available through the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports (WIAE), which was proposed by Gov. Tony Evers in his 2021-23 biennial budget.
Coordinated by WEDC, IMAGs provide funding to support a company’s specific export development and deployment strategy. The WIAE expands WEDC’s existing IMAG program by designating funds solely for agribusinesses. Recipients are established agribusinesses that are new to exporting or expanding into new markets, operating in Wisconsin, and manufacturing, processing, assembling, or distributing a product that has the potential to be exported.

On June 13th, 2022, seven Wisconsin wood companies met with nine pre-qualified softwood and hardwood buyers from Pakistan in Green Bay to build contacts and relationships for future business. The event was made possible through a partnership between the Softwood Export Council, New North Inc., and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
Pakistan is the fifth-most populated country in the world with more than 229 million consumers and a gross domestic product of $264 billion. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Pakistan is the 21st-largest export market for food and agricultural products from the U.S. and its import volume of forestry materials makes it the seventh-largest market in the world. Through this activity and communication with the buyers, the Wisconsin companies are expecting to create new business contacts and increase Wisconsin’s forestry product export to Pakistan.

In June, a Japanese dairy buyer Mr. Kazutoshi Ueno of eAnimal of Japan visited Wisconsin to build contacts and relationships for future business with three different Wisconsin cheese companies. His trip was made possible through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP)’s Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports. The purpose of this and other inbound trade missions is to bring foreign buyers to Wisconsin, allowing them to observe and understand the quality, value, and functionality of Wisconsin and the U.S. products that can help them to achieve their business goals.
The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is requesting company participation in a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-funded assessment of U.S. exporter awareness of and readiness for sustainable packaging requirements in overseas markets.
Government regulators around the world are implementing or drafting new regulatory requirements on sustainability and packaging standards. In key export markets, U.S. exporters may soon face bans on single-use plastic packaging, restrictions on use of certain materials, recycling mandates, requirements for minimum recycled content (MRC) and/or to eliminate excessive packaging, new taxes under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, and labeling requirements to disclose packaging’s carbon footprint.
USDA/FAS has partnered with TradeMoves LLC, a trade advisory firm for the food and agriculture sector, to conduct this exporter assessment. FAS is requesting that representatives from U.S. food and beverage manufacturers who are responsible for packaging design and compliance with packaging sustainability requirements in overseas markets participate in a 1-hour company-specific interview.
