Shaping a healthier future for Pacific Avenue
Tacoma’s “Picture Pac Ave” Subarea Plan outlines a long-term vision for growth and development along Pacific Avenue. As part of this effort, the Health Department conducted a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) to evaluate how the plan could affect community well-being.
The assessment includes policy recommendations that could make it safer and easier to walk, bike, and roll along Pacific Avenue, while also improving access to healthcare services in the area.
Read the full Pacific Avenue Health Impact Assessment or read a summary in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Ukrainian, and Russian.

Planting seeds of hope in Orting
Valley of Esperanza (formerly Latinx Family Advocacy) helps families navigate the school system and connects families with community resources. As the program has grown, it has expanded to better meet your needs—whether you’re looking for direct support, resources, or opportunities to connect with other families in Orting, White River, and Sumner. Valley of Esperanza, which means “hope,” helps strengthen families, celebrating Latin culture, and planting seeds of hope for everyone it serves.
You’ll also find new support at the center. Maria Vera Lopez joined the team in January and is based at Orting Family Resource Center (OFRC). Orting School District partners with OFRC to help connect your home and your child’s school while offering resources for the broader Orting community. OFRC is a welcoming, bilingual (Spanish and English) space where you can get help and access a diaper bank. Visit the center Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
