Community outreach worker Malcolm Clay says talking about COVID-19 vaccine and building trust begins with the Golden Rule.
“Vaccines aren’t always a popular topic, but I approach these conversations as respectfully as possible and put myself in people’s shoes.”
Malcolm and the community outreach team will talk to people in Parkland and Spanaway area where vaccine percentages are among the lowest in Pierce County.

Many Black people don’t trust the medical system. But Dr. John Vassall says you shouldn’t let that stop you from getting vaccinated or taking your health seriously.
“I start by acknowledging that the fear of vaccines is real and justified,” he said. “I’m not going to tell anybody not to be afraid, or that they’re not going to run into racism. You can’t let those issues keep you from getting the care you need.”
