CORRECTION: We've corrected the day of the Q&A event on kids and the COVID-19 vaccine.
Kids 5 and older can get a COVID-19 vaccine! In a large trial, no children suffered serious side effects and the vaccine was 90.7% effective at preventing COVID-19.
“The virus itself generates a much bigger threat” than vaccines, says Puyallup’s Dr. Drew Sledd with Kaiser Permanente. He’s seen patients suffering from COVID-19 and plans to get his 5-year-old vaccinated immediately.
If you’ve been vaccinated but haven’t decided whether to vaccinate your children, Dr. Sledd said it helps to remember they need the same protection you do.

Like COVID-19, the flu isn’t just a bad cold; it’s a serious respiratory illness. Most years, the flu kills hundreds of people in Washington and sends thousands more to the hospital.
You can fight the flu in Pierce County with the same tools you use to stop the spread of COVID-19—get vaccinated and keep up those healthy habits. Stomping the flu will save lives and keep our hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.

“Someone could say ‘no’ right now to the vaccine, but they could change their mind easily the next day. Don’t give up on people because you never know when someone could think differently.”
Know someone still waiting to get COVID-19 vaccine? Lua Pritchard of the Asia Pacific Cultural Center says it’s never too late. She makes calls, books appointments and even picks people up and drops them off if they need help to get COVID-19 vaccine.
