COVID-19 vaccine is making a difference in our disease rates, but some areas need to play catch up.
In Pierce County areas where more people have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine, case rates are lower. The data come from a new map we launched on our data page. The map shows the percentage of people who have received at least one vaccine dose for each census tract in Pierce County. When compared with our confirmed case rate by census tract map for just the past few weeks, we see several areas where higher vaccine coverage aligns with lower case rates.

How a few cases become many
Outbreaks at gathering places shows why we must remain vigilant against COVID.
Rising case rates and the move back to Phase 2 of the state’s Roadmap to Recovery guidelines cast a shadow on the all the good news surrounding the vaccine.
Recent examples show what happens when we let down our guard against COVID-19. People, many of them younger, infected with COVID at gatherings or other situations where safe guidelines aren’t followed. Churches in Pierce County are experiencing outbreaks.
It’s a vivid reminder we still have a way to go before the pandemic is over.
