In this alert: Info on work happening during 9-day closure of Bellevue Way SE to I-90 HOV ramp and weekly road/lane closure impacts

9-day closure of Bellevue Way SE to I-90 HOV ramp as crews continue drilled shaft work

As Sound Transit’s contractor continues construction of drilled shafts and columns to support the aerial guideway of the East Link project. Beginning Wednesday, July 19 at 8 p.m. crews will close the Bellevue Way and I-90 HOV ramp. Work anticipated to occur during the 9-day closure includes installation of a 36” storm drain, demolition of concrete barrier along the HOV ramp, installation of temporary barrier, drilled shaft work including drilling, and setting cages and pouring foundations.

What to expect:

Roadway closed. The Bellevue Way Southeast to I-90 west HOV ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. beginning Wednesday, July 19th through 3 p.m. on Friday, July 28th.

Work hours. During the closure, 24-hour work will occur.

Heavy machinery. Cranes, drilling machinery, concrete trucks, concrete cutters, excavators.

Noise. There will be noise from cranes, drilling machinery and associated equipment during drilling, soil removal and installation of steel rebar cages. There is also potential for low-frequency vibration during drilling. Crews will use vactor trucks, excavators, concrete cutters and paving equipment while installing the 36” storm drain and restoring the roadway.

Trucks. Truck traffic will deliver materials and haul materials offsite.

Weekend and weekly lane closures

Weekend July 22-23

No weekend closures planned for Bellevue Way SE

Bellevue Way Southeast will remain open during the weekend of July 22-23. However, as stated above, the Bellevue Way Southeast to I-90 west HOV ramp will close on Wednesday, July 19 for nine consecutive days. The ramp is scheduled to reopen on Friday, July 28th at 3 p.m.

Week of July 24-28

Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.: One northbound lane of Bellevue Way Southeast will be closed from the north end of the South Bellevue Station site to the Wye at 112th Avenue Southeast.

Wednesday, July 19, starting at 8p.m. through 3 p.m. on Friday, July 28: nine-day closure Bellevue Way Southeast to I-90 ramp west HOV ramp.

Monday-Thursday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.: As needed, Sound Transit's contractor may close one southbound lane on 112th Avenue Southeast, between Main Street and Southeast 6th.

Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Daily closure of one northbound lane and sidewalk (east side) on 112th Avenue Southeast, between Southeast 15th and Bellevue Way Southeast. These daily closures will continue until the northbound lanes of 112th Avenue Southeast between Bellevue Way Southeast and Southeast 15th are closed and traffic will be diverted to the two southbound lanes (one lane in each direction will remain open), which is expected to happen later this month. At this time, the sidewalk on the eastside of 112th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 8th and Bellevue Way Southeast will also close for approximately four months.

Wednesday-Thursday, July 26-27: The I-90 East to Bellevue Way HOV ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Reminder of ongoing closures

24-hour closure: The sidewalk on Bellevue Way Southeast between the Wye at 112th Avenue Southeast and the South Bellevue Station site is closed. This closure will continue for approximately 2 ½ years; people biking and walking should seek alternate routes.

24-hour closure: The sidewalk on the west side of 112th Avenue Southeast, between East Main and Southeast 6th is closed due to construction activities on the west side of 112th Avenue Southeast. People walking are asked to use the sidewalk on the east side of 112th Avenue Southeast, crossing at the signalized intersections located at Main Street and Southeast 6th. The King County Metro bus stop located between Main Street and Southeast 4th has been relocated to a new location on the west side of 112th Avenue Northeast, north of Main Street. The King County Metro stop located south of Southeast 4th has been relocated to a new location on the west side of 112th Avenue Southeast, south of Southeast 6th.


A look ahead

Sound Transit's contractor expects regular weekend closures to continue into the fall. However, weekend closures of Bellevue Way Southeast are not anticipated for the weekends of July 29-30 and August 5-6. A full closure similar to what will occur the weekend of July 15-16 is expected to be repeated over the weekend of August 12-13.

Beginning Monday, July 31st: Southeast 15th Street will be closed for approximately three years, as crews begin preparing the area for construction of the road-over-rail crossing. Workers and visitors wishing to access Bellefield Office Park will use 114th Avenue Southeast from Southeast 8th Street.

Beginning Monday, July 31st: Sound Transit's contractor will close the northbound lanes of 112th Avenue Southeast, between Bellevue Way Southeast and Southeast 15th. Traffic will be diverted to the two southbound lanes (one lane in each direction will remain open). At this time, the sidewalk on the eastside of 112th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 8th and Bellevue Way Southeast will be closed. Sidewalk access will be maintained on the west side of 112th Avenue Southeast, between Southeast 8th and Bellevue Way Southeast.
