Artist selected for Brooklyn and Roosevelt stations

We're very excited to announce the artists who will create original art for Brooklyn and Roosevelt stations. Selection panels made up of artist and design professionals as well as community representatives reviewed the artist submittals, then conducted interviews and selected the artists.

Local team Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo of Lead Pencil Studio was named lead artist for Brooklyn Station. Lead Pencil Studio recently completed the empty billboard sculpture in Peace Arch Park on the Canadian border.

R&R Studios, the team of Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt, will focus on the street level experience at Roosevelt Station. The Living Room, their 42-foot tall streetscape home turned inside-out, has become an icon in Miami where they live.

Luca Buvoli will create artwork for the Roosevelt Station interior. Buvoli combines his training in science with his explorations in sculpture. He recently installed a large suspended sculpture at Houston's Hobby Airport.

An event will be scheduled in the next 2-3 months where you can meet the artists and hear about their work.

The lead artist for the Northgate Station will be selected in early 2012.

What is North Link?

North Link is a key part of the regional mass transit system approved by voters in 2008. The 4.3-mile light rail extension includes stations in the University District (Brooklyn), Roosevelt neighborhood and Northgate. Trains will run in underground tunnels from downtown Seattle to a site along I-5, south of the Northgate Station. Trains will come out of the tunnels to serve the elevated Northgate Station.

The Sound Transit Board selected the North Link route and station locations in April 2006, following completion of the North Link Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.

North Link is projected to add over 60,000 daily riders to the Link system, bringing total daily ridership to 176,000 in 2030. Construction of North Link is expected to begin in 2012.
