Council Leadership

At its first meeting of 2025, the County Council elected new leadership. Unanimously, the Council elected Councilmember Nate Nehring as Chair and Councilmember Megan Dunn as Vice Chair. The Council leadership team serves a one-year term. I am very proud that we elected another bipartisan leadership team this year, and congratulations to Chair Nehring and Vice-Chair Dunn. With our current leadership, I know the County Council is in good hands.

3rd Annual Civic Education Day

Last week, over 300 high school students from school districts around the county traveled to the Snohomish County Campus to meet elected officials and county staff and learn about county government. Council Chair Nate Nehring and I invited students to campus as part of our ongoing effort to promote civility and inspire the next generation of leaders.

As part of the event, students met with County Councilmembers, Sheriff’s Office staff, the Snohomish County Prosecutor, Public Works staff, Elections Office staff, and the Department of Conservation of Natural Resources.

Participating students came from Cascade High School, Jackson High School, the Innovation Lab, Heritage High School, Pilchuck High School, Getchell High School, Legacy High School, Lakewood High School, and home-schooled students.

I'm honored that this event continues to grow in popularity with students. Every year is a great experience to connect with our future leaders.

WAIDF Presentation

Over the weekend, I was invited to participate on a panel hosted by the Washington Institute for a Democratic Future.  Council Vice-Chair Megan Dunn and I spoke to students about the impact of local government and the importance of involvement with your community. The group was really engaged and full of energy, I am hopeful for our future and I am honored to be included in the event.

Goals for 2025

Goals for 2025 – Looking ahead this year, I have a few key areas that I would like to focus on as your county councilmember. Those areas include, but are not limited to;

  • Improving the process and timelines for permitting to help encourage and support small businesses in our county.
  • Preserving environmental protections as our county continues to experience growth.
  • Expanding access to childcare for working families
  • Expanding access and opportunities for members of our community to chart a path toward homeownership.
  • Focus on government efficiency by finding opportunities to reduce tax burdens for constituents.
