Today, the Snohomish County Council passed our 2025 -2026 biennial budget with a 3-2 vote. As Chair of the council, I am incredibly proud of my fellow councilmembers who deliberated both passionately and with respect for one another to try and find solutions to really tough fiduciary issues. Over the past few weeks, we have heard hours of public testimony, received an overwhelming amount of written comments, and considered well over 30 amendments when all was said and done.
Some of the budget amendments passed unanimously, some failed, and some passed with a split vote on the left and others with a split vote to the right. I truly believe this budget reflects the definition of balance and thoughtfulness and is exactly what our constituents expect of their leaders – compromise.
Today is a great example of why I love local government so much. Together, we put partisanship and politics aside to get things done for our community.
I will admit that this budget is not perfect, no budget is. However, it does perfectly reflect the diversity and complexity of our county and the constituents we serve.
Thank you to everyone who wrote in, testified, and made their voices heard over the past couple of months. Your leaders heard you and your feedback was absolutely critical throughout this process.
