Last week, I was able to visit the installation of a new sidewalk crossing located outside of Lockwood Elementary. Parents and teachers alike have been trying to secure a safer crossing for children for the past decade. When they approached me after a council meeting last year, I was eager to help this community find a solution. Last week, with the help of Public Works staff, Lockwood parents and staff, and myself, we were able to unveil an RRFB sidewalk to help students get to school safely. I want to thank everyone who was a part of bringing this sidewalk to Lockwood, it is already making a big difference in the lives of parents and students. You can read more about the project in this Herald article.
Also, last week I was able to visit the Bothell City Council to provide an update on Snohomish County business. During my visit, I presented information regarding the Comprehensive Plan Update, our expected growth in South County, the biennial budget and priorities for Snohomish County, and land use policies that will help maintain the character of Snohomish County while simultaneously preparing for future growth. It was a pleasure to join the City of Bothell during their council meeting and I look forward to future opportunities to collaborate.
On Wednesday, October 2nd the Council continued the discussion relating to the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update. At the meeting, the Council continued the discussion to Wednesday, December 4th. Last month, I was graciously invited to the Association of Washington Business Policy Summit to present alongside Councilmember Nehring to discuss bipartisanship. We discussed the important role that bipartisanship and collaboration play in politics and business alike. Councilmember Nehring and I also shared our perspectives and experiences in local politics and how we work together to serve the communities we represent. I am thankful for the opportunity to present at the AWB Policy Summit and I’m grateful for the work that AWB does to support businesses across Washington State.
On September 11th, the Snohomish County Council passed resolution 24-042 recognizing September 15th – October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month in Snohomish County. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and honors the histories, cultures, and people that make up the varied, powerful, and beautiful communities throughout our nation. Members of the Hispanic community joined us for the passage of the resolution. I am grateful to be able to host and recognize representatives of both Mexican and Spanish governments.
