The Comprehensive Plan Update is well underway and for those who have been following along in the process, it is a cumbersome and important body of work that will shape the future of Snohomish County. Starting on September 3rd, the County Council will begin budget deliberations for the 2025-2026 biennial budget cycle. For the first time, the County Council will transition from an annual budget to a biennial one. The biennial budget adopted in 2024 will cover 2025-2026. This process allows County departments to be more strategic with project planning while making minor changes halfway through the budget based on revenue/expenditure changes. The County Executive will submit the proposed biennial budget to the Council in September. Council hearings will follow to collect public input. The Council will then review and adopt its first biennial budget in November 2024.
Last month, I had the opportunity to tour Code Ninjas in Mill Creek. Code Ninjas hosts programs for kids and young adults to learn coding through outcome-based exercises and workshops. They use programs like Roblox and Minecraft to set clear learning goals and design activities and assessments that help learners achieve their goals. Additionally, the program emphasizes leadership, creativity, and ownership through the curriculum. I was really excited to learn about Code Ninjas and the invaluable skills they help our kids develop. The Evergreen State Fair closes on Monday, September 2nd. Every year, families from all around the region come to our county to enjoy the Evergreen State Fair. I want to give a special thanks to the DCNR team for hosting a great event that is filled with fun, adventure, and activities for the whole family.
On Sunday, August 25th, my wife Krystal delivered the newest addition to our little family. We are proud to welcome baby Benson to our home who is our fourth child, he is the perfect addition and we are so grateful!
