Dear North County Neighbors,
I would like to start this month’s newsletter by sharing my deep sorrow over the tragic loss of two of our local police officers.
Everett Police Officer Dan Rocha was violently killed in the line of duty on Friday, March 25th while responding to a call near Everett Community College. Officer Rocha served the Everett community for 5 years with the Everett Police Department. His memorial will be held on Monday, April 4th at 1:00 PM at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett.
We also learned last week of the murder of Edmonds Police Officer Tyler Steffins while he was off-duty and on vacation in Las Vegas. Officer Steffins served the Edmonds community for 4 years following his service in the United States Marine Corps.
My prayers are with the families of Officer Rocha and Officer Steffins, the Everett and Edmonds Police Departments, and the broader community mourning the loss of these brave heroes. Our first responders put on their uniforms every day to keep us safe and their loss is felt throughout our community.
Recap of Legislative Session
The 2022 legislative session wrapped up on March 10th. This year was a short session in the two-year cycle but that didn’t stop the legislature from taking action on major issues over the 60-day session.
The most significant action was on transportation, where the legislature passed a $17 billion, 16-year transportation package. A large package was not expected in this short session. This package is the largest in state history and includes funding for the Columbia River crossing replacement, certain highway projects, new ferries, transit expansion, culvert replacements, and bike and pedestrian projects.
