COVID-19 Update

As of October 6th, Governor Inslee has released updated guidance to Washington’s Safe Start Plan, you can find the newly released guidelines here. As we approach flu season while simultaneously continuing our fight with COVID-19 it’s important to abide by the following good hygiene practices to protect yourself and others:

  • Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around people, particularly in public settings
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently especially those which are regularly touched or used

I’ve also included a list of activities which offers healthy suggestions on how to manage stress during the pandemic. In trying times please remember to take care of yourself and each other.

  • Talk to people you trust about what’s bothering you, this can include friends, family members, counsellors, among others
  • If you must stay at home, maintain a healthy lifestyle – including proper diet, sleep, exercise and social contacts with loved ones at home and by email and phone
  • If you feel overwhelmed, talk to a health worker or counsellor
  • Have a plan, where to go to and how to seek help for physical and mental health needs if required
  • Limit worry and agitation by lessening the time you and your family spend watching or listening to media coverage that you perceive as upsetting
  • Draw on skills you have used in the past that have helped you to manage previous life’s adversities and use those skills help you manage emotions during the challenging time of this outbreak

Halloween Gets A Little Trickier This Year

Pumpkin

As we approach the Halloween holiday, we will have to plan to get creative in how we celebrate during Coronavirus. Recently, the State Department of Health has issued Tips for A Safer Halloween which includes fun ideas on how to celebrate and guidelines for those who plan to participate in trick-or-treating this year. Below, I’ve  included a list of general recommendations regardless of how you plan to celebrate safely and protect yourself, your loved ones, and others. Please stay safe and healthy!

  • Wear a cloth face covering. Make sure the face covering fits snugly over your nose and mouth.
  • Avoid confined spaces. Outdoor activities are safer than indoor activities. If participating in an outdoor event is not possible, and you choose to attend an indoor event, avoid crowded, poorly ventilated, and fully enclosed indoor spaces. Increase ventilation by opening windows and doors to the extent that is safe and feasible based on the weather.
  • Avoid close contact with people outside of your household. Stay at least 6 feet away from all other people who are not part of your own household.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands often. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Stay home if you are sick or were recently exposed to someone with COVID-19. If you are sick, have symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, stay home and away from others.

For Halloween my wife, Krystal and I, are taking our son Kallen to the Candy Grab N Go Event hosted by the City of Mill Creek then taking him on a neighborhood scavenger hunt. How do you plan to safely celebrate?

Boeing Moves 787 Production Line to North Carolina

As you may have heard or seen, Boeing will be moving the 787 production line to North Carolina in order to adapt to the downturn and increase operational efficiency within the supply chain. It’s no secret in Snohomish County that Boeing has been a large part of our community - dating back to 1943. Boeing and the larger aerospace industry are important contributors to our community and I am saddened to hear the loss we will face in already challenging times. As the county council works through this budget season,  I am committed to finding opportunities for long-term economic vitality throughout Snohomish County as we face a loss from the 787 production line.

Closing

The Council will continue to spend the upcoming weeks and into November deliberating recommendations for the 2021 county budget. If you’d like to stay informed throughout the budget process and deliberations, I’ve included the Snohomish County Budget webpage for general information on what to expect for the upcoming process and the Snohomish County Meetings and Webcasts webpage to get dial-in information for upcoming meetings.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay up-to-date and informed in your community! My goal is to make local government issues accessible and community members informed, if you have feedback, suggestions, or questions, please feel free to reach out to my office using the contact information below.
