Darcy Cheesman, Legislative Aide

Hope you have been enjoying this beautiful weather.

As Memorial Day is fast approaching, please join me in taking a moment to remember the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

My door is always open.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions and concerns.

Heritage Program

Heritage

The Community Heritage Program provides financial grant resources to assist the collection, preservation and interpretation of Snohomish County’s heritage.  This program is funded with a portion of document recording fees collected by the county Auditor.  All of these funds allocated are for projects that “promote historical preservation or historical programs, which may include preservation of historical documents”.

This year the committee considered small grants under $10,000 and large grants up to $100,000.  Last month I had the pleasure of going out to Index and the Sky Valley Chamber to present two checks.  The Index Historic Society was awards $12,300 for two projects and the Start Up Gym project was awarded a large award of $60,000.  What an amazing investment in preserving our historical heritage!  I will have additional grant information next month as well.

Paine Field Update

Paine Field

Plans are still on track for commercial flights out of Paine Field this fall.  I found an interesting article regarding the type of service to be offered by Propeller Airports.  It discusses hospitality and plans to include high-speed internet access, fireplaces and valet service.  It will also have three TSA security checkpoints for just two gates.  It will be great to have this service available right here in Snohomish County.

Evergreen Speedway

evergreen speedway

Evergreen Speedway will be hosting the Mark Galloway 150 race over Memorial Day weekend.  This race is in honor of Mark Galloway who loved the speedway and racing.  Mark was on the crew for a variety of race teams before becoming a Tech Inspector at the Speedway.  Evergreen Speedway is home to some of the biggest motorsports events on the west coast, including their premier event, Summer Showdown.  This event will take place June 28th through the 30th.  For additional information on events at the Speedway please go to https://www.evergreenspeedway.com/. I am proud this unique and wonderful venue is in our district!  Doug and Traci Hobbs have done an outstanding job operating the Speedway.

Naval Station Everett

USS Ralph Johnson
The USS Ralph Johnson at the shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi. (Huntington Ingalls Industries)

Last month I was honored to attend the State of the Station at Naval Station Everett.  At that time is was announced that the USS Ralph Johnson would be stationed here in Everett.  This is the sixth destroyer to be stationed here in Everett, has a crew of 314 sailors, and roles include anti-air, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare as well as airstrikes. We welcome the crew of the USS Ralph Johnson to Snohomish County!
