Councilman Nehring's November Newsletter

Snohomish County Newsdesk of Nate Nehring

Dear North County Neighbors,

I would like to start this newsletter by saying thank you to the voters of District 1 for electing me to serve on the Snohomish County Council for the next four years. Since January of this year, I have had the honor of representing North Snohomish County and we have made great progress on the important issues facing our communities. Over the next four years, I will continue to work with residents, community leaders, and my fellow councilmembers to make our county government work better for you.

On October 19th, I attended the Trails to Success ribbon cutting at Kayak Point Park. Trails to Success is a partnership between Juvenile Court, the Parks Department, WorkSource, and the court’s Reclaiming Futures program. The program gives low-level juvenile offenders an opportunity to build trails, bridges, and stairs in county parks, building their resumes and setting them on a path to success in their futures. I was impressed by the projects I saw at the ribbon cutting and thank the county and court staff that have made this program a success. I look forward to seeing the future of this program and the youth involved.

This morning, Council Chair Sullivan presented his proposed 2018 budget. The chair’s proposed budget includes a 2% property tax increase. While this is less than Executive Somers’ 4% increase proposal, I remain opposed to increasing property taxes. Over the last few months, I have worked with staff to create a budget proposal that funds our priorities, including public safety, without increasing property taxes. I will continue to work with my fellow councilmembers and staff before budget adoption to get a responsible budget passed that does not increase taxes.

Thank you again and I look forward to continue to work on your behalf on the Snohomish County Council.

I will be sending out newsletters on a monthly basis to keep you informed about what I am working on and how I am representing the residents of North Snohomish County on the County Council. Please feel free to reach out to me at 425-388-3494 or Nate.Nehring@snoco.org.

Sincerely,

Nate Nehring
