Dear North County Neighbors,
As we head into the budget season at the Snohomish County
Council, we will be very busy deciding the most effective and productive use of
your hard-earned tax dollars. In addition to the budget, I have some exciting
news to share about other recent actions by the council in this month’s
newsletter.
As you might have seen in the news, the Snohomish County
Council voted unanimously in support of my proposal to temporarily ban so
called “safe injection sites”. I have had many residents reach out to me sharing
their concerns about safe injection sites in King County and the worry that
they might make their way up into Snohomish County. This led me to introduce
the temporary ban which prevents safe injection sites from locating in
unincorporated parts of Snohomish County for the next 6 months while a
permanent ban makes its way through the Planning Commission. I am also
encouraging other cities in Snohomish County to follow suit and ban these sites
in their cities. I sent an email to all mayors and city councilmembers in
Snohomish County last week promoting the ban.
The 2018 budget season is here and we are starting this week
with presentations from county government departments to discuss the Executive’s
proposed budget. The proposed budget includes the dedicated law enforcement and
embedded social worker in North County to focus on the heroin and opioid
epidemic. I joined Mayors Tolbert and Nehring as well as Sheriff Trenary in
writing a letter to Executive Somers asking for this program to be included in
the budget. I will continue to fight for public safety to be the top priority
in the 2018 budget.
I have written before about the Arlington-Marysville
Manufacturing Industrial Center. Last week, I received news from the City of
Arlington that they received a $50,000 grant from the Community Economic Revitalization
Board to study infrastructure and transportation plans for the MIC. I am
excited for the City of Arlington and the greater community of North County as
we work to bring more local, family wage jobs to our region.
I send out newsletters on a monthly basis to keep
you informed about what I am working on and how I am representing the residents
of North Snohomish County on the County Council. Please feel free to reach out
to me at 425-388-3494 or Nate.Nehring@snoco.org.
Sincerely,
Nate Nehring
