Councilman Nehring's July Update

Snohomish County Newsdesk of Nate Nehring

Dear North County Neighbors,

I hope you all had a happy and safe Independence Day as we celebrated the freedoms we enjoy in this great nation. I would like to thank the communities of Stanwood, Arlington, and Darrington for putting on such great celebrations on the 4th. It was great to see so many neighbors out at the various events in North County.

I am happy to report that we are making great progress in our work regarding an embedded social worker (ESW) in North County. The ESW program will give law enforcement additional tools for dealing with homeless and drug addicted individuals in our neighborhoods. Talks with the cities of Arlington and Marysville and Sheriff Ty Trenary have produced some great ideas for addressing this epidemic and I am excited about the potential for an ESW in North County as early as next year.

We are also making progress on our ordinances regarding chronic nuisance properties. As I have wrote about before, I am working on legislation that would help County Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement, and the Health District in addressing nuisance homes that create public safety and health concerns to neighbors. I would like to thank the constituents that have reached out to me regarding this issue as well as the local leaders that have worked with us to craft a plan that will hopefully bring relief to concerned residents as it relates to chronic nuisance properties.

On July 13, I emceed the grand opening of the Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital in Marysville. I was joined by Governor Jay Inslee and many medical and local leaders to welcome the SPBH to our county. This state of the art facility will provide another option for individuals struggling with mental and behavioral health issues and is a great resource for residents of Snohomish County. In less than a year, the hospital will be able to achieve its full capacity of treating 115 individuals. Please join me in welcoming and thanking the staff of the SPBH for their commitment to helping our neighbors struggling with psychiatric health issues.

One last note I would like to touch on is my recent tour of the Boeing Everett Factory. Rich White, Government Operations at Boeing, led Councilman Sam Low and I on a tour of the facility housing the assembly of the Boeing 747, 767, 777, and 787 planes. It was an incredible learning experience to see the breadth of the jobs and innovation Boeing provides Snohomish County, the region, and the world. I encourage any of my interested neighbors in North County to visit the Future of Flight museum and attend a tour if you haven’t already and learn more about the great work being done by Boeing right here in Snohomish County.

I will continue to send out newsletters on a monthly basis to keep you informed about what I am working on and how I am representing the residents of North Snohomish County on the County Council. Please feel free to reach out to me at 425-388-3494 or Nate.Nehring@snoco.org.

Sincerely,

Nate Nehring
