Snohomish County, Washington sent this bulletin at 03/01/2017 04:53 PM PST
Dear North County Neighbors,
It has been a little over a month since I was appointed to
the Snohomish County Council and I could not be happier to serve you in this
role. Over the course of the past month I have been meeting with constituents,
county staff, and regional stakeholders to learn about the important issues
that North County residents face and what we can do at the county to address
them.
I was appointed Chair of the County Council Planning and
Community Development Committee. As Chair, I plan on taking a comprehensive
approach to how the Council addresses development, land use, and planning
issues by encouraging hearty debate and stakeholder input so that we make
well-informed decisions.
In addition to this council committee, I serve on a number
of outside committees. I will be serving on the leadership board of Snohomish
County Tomorrow, which is a group made up of representatives from the County
and Snohomish County Cities to work on planning and development issues. I am
also a member of the Snohomish County Performance Audit Committee, Economic
Alliance Aerospace in Action, the Health District Board, the Water Resource
Inventory Area 5 committee, and the Washington State Association of Counties
Federal Legislative Steering Committee.
I would like to share a grant opportunity for communities in
North County. The council has a program called the Small Capital Projects
Partnership (SCPP) which provides funding for projects by local entities which
have partnered with a public entity (county, cities, and school, park, and
utility districts). There is $10,000 available for North County to assist with
projects including park, street, road, sidewalks, lighting, bridge construction
or rehabilitation. For a full list of eligible projects and the application for
the SCPP, please visit this link.
The application deadline is March 31st.
There is a great upcoming event hosted by the Snohomish
County Labor Council on April 4, 2017 called
Trade UP! Trade UP! is a one-day, interactive event that gives high school
juniors and seniors the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with various
trade jobs in Snohomish County. From driving a Community Transit bus or UPS
vehicle, to pouring concrete and operating a fire hose, students have the
chance to learn about different jobs from the professionals who do them. Trade
UP! is available to all teens ages 16-18 in Snohomish County. The event is free
but space is limited to 60 participants. Visit www.workforcesnohomish.org/tradeup to
sign up.
I will be sending out newsletters on a monthly basis to keep
you informed about what I am working on and how I am representing the residents
of North Snohomish County on the County Council. Please feel free to reach out
to me at 425-388-3494 or Nate.Nehring@snoco.org.
Sincerely,
