Port Commission votes to purchase Salmon Bay Marina

Salmon Bay Marina location

The Port of Seattle Commission voted to purchase Salmon Bay Marina, located on the Ship Canal adjacent to the Port’s Fishermen’s Terminal facility. The five acre property contains five docks supporting 166 slips measuring 6,547 lineal feet of moorage on freshwater. The purchase price was $15,679,120.

“The purchase of Salmon Bay Marina is a step toward fulfilling our Century Agenda goal to double the number of jobs in our region associated with fishing and maritime and is financially smart for the Port,” said Commission President Tom Albro. “It also protects urban industrial and maritime land, which is also environmentally wise.”

Medical emergency/high rate of speed incident summary

As you may know, a vessel entered Shilshole Bay Marina at a high rate of speed the afternoon of December 28, 2017 due to a medical emergency onboard.

Unfortunately, due to the high wake, there was damage done to the docks and possibly several vessels on F and G-Docks. We recommend customers on those docks check their vessels for any damage if you have not yet done so.

We would like to thank the emergency responders and Shilshole Bay Marina staff and customers who helped during and after the incident.

Reminder to check your emergency notification contacts

The medical emergency and subsequent damage gave marina staff another opportunity to put the text alert system to the test. Text alerts are used for urgent notifications and allow staff to immediately notify boaters about a situation. The alert provided an efficient way to communicate and we encourage all moorage customers to sign up by texting “BOAT” to (206) 258-6988.

Please also review the emergency contact information we have for you on file, as that is the information we use to contact boaters when an incident affects their vessel/slip which we will do immediately upon learning of any emergency. You are also welcome to call the marina office.

2018 rate and policy updates

Rate updates

The Port of Seattle recently completed its annual review of moorage rates and current market conditions in the area. After this review, rates are adjusted accordingly.

Effective January 1, 2018, monthly moorage rates at Shilshole Bay Marina increased by 6%. Other rates and fees have also been adjusted. These changes are located in Tariff #6 for Shilshole Bay Marina. The new rates will be reflected on the January 2018 billing statements.

Updated moorage termination policy

In order to better serve our customers, we have updated our termination policy. Instead of requiring a full calendar months’ notice you may now submit written notice to terminate moorage at any time and your moorage will terminate 30-days from said notice.

Updated sublease policy

We have made some changes to the sublease policy, which are highlighted in this sublease letter. Additional details can be found within the newly updated Shilshole Bay Marina Moorage Tariff #6, available on the website by January 1, 2018.

We are no longer posting the list of current customers who wish to sublease their slip on the marina bulletin board. Instead, interested sublessees will be directed to the marina office. Once we have obtained the required documentation from the potential sublessee, as listed in the sublease letter, for subleases of seven days or longer, we will provide the sublessee the list of moorage customers interested in subleasing their slips. We hope you will appreciate this improvement so that only customers who meet marina moorage requirements will be able to contact you directly.
