Community Resource Day

SMC's next Community Resource Day is taking place from 10 AM-3 PM on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Ave. S., in Seattle. This event helps individuals connect with housing, healthcare, employment support and legal resources to address outstanding tickets and warrants.

Pre-registration is highly recommended to help you beat the lines on event day. Secure your spot and find out more details by filling out this form.

If you or someone you know needs immediate assistance before August, the Court operates a year-round Community Resource Center on the second floor of the SMC. It is open 8 AM-5 PM Monday-Friday and offers emergency food bags, hygiene kits, bus tickets and onsite agency representatives.

SMC Leadership and Recognition at the DMCJA Spring Conference

The District and Municipal Court Judges' Association spring conference highlighted SMC leadership, Judge Catherine McDowall’s AI and Rules Committee sessions, Presiding Judge Anita Crawford‑Willis’s completed term as president, and Judge Willie Gregory receiving the President’s Award.

This week, SMC Court Administrator Josh Sattler is attending the National Association for Court Management's annual conference in Jacksonville, Fla., where the theme is "America 250: Preserving the Rule of Law in the Age of Rapid Change."

Lynn Milloy retires from Seattle Municipal Court after 47 years of service

Lynn Milloy (right), a long‑tenured and deeply respected member the SMC community, retired on June 16. What began as a summer job in June 1978—when she was 19—became a remarkable, decades‑long career. Her retirement celebration included heartfelt remarks from Judges Damon Shadid and Faye R. Chess (also pictured).

Quilts of Valor honors SMC veterans

Court Operations Supervisor Christopher Claybern, Probation Counselor Cesario Bosquez and Judge Willie Gregory were honored by Quilts of Valor on June 12. Judge Gregory served four years with the U.S. Air Force (USAF), Christopher served nine years with the USAF and Cesario served 21 years with the U.S. Army.

People of the Court

In the third installment of “From the Archives,” the latest blog post features the essential but often unseen work that keeps SMC running, told through the experiences of long-time employees John Mann and Kathy Tucker. Arriving a decade apart and from different corners of the institution, both witnessed the Court’s dramatic evolution—from paper-driven processes and landlines to digital systems like C‑Track that reshaped daily operations. 

John, an IT developer, focused on building and refining technology that streamlines workflows, while Kathy, a veteran bailiff and supervisor, navigated the human side of courthouse operations, ensuring cases move smoothly and people receive support. Their stories underscore the Court’s deep reliance on collaboration, adaptability, and behind-the-scenes precision, reminding us that the heart of the institution lies not just in its courtrooms but in the quiet, dedicated work of those who keep it functioning with care and purpose.
