Seattle Parks and Recreation Begins Construction at Magnuson Park Junior League Play Area
Seattle, WA Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is happy to announce we have awarded the construction contract for the Magnuson Park Junior League Play Area and Restroom project to Good News Group Inc. This contractor will mobilize on Wednesday, May 20, and close the play area in preparation for construction. We anticipate the project will be completed in early 2027.
For the duration of the project there will be no access to picnic shelter (#3) and the basketball courts will be partially closed. Construction will not impact access to Mickey Merriam Fields or trail access to the soccer field.
The project will renovate existing play area with new safety surfacing and play equipment for kids between age 2 to 12. The original play area was constructed in 1999 with the support of the Junior League of Seattle. A new 3-stall all gender restroom will be constructed as part of the project including new drinking fountain, accessible path improvements connecting the existing play area, basketball court, and the new restroom. There will also be additional seating and plantings.
During early planning phase, the project team developed conceptual designs for the new splashpad at the Jr League Play Area. The additional scope of work will be considered in a future phase.
