SW Barton Construction Updates:

April 16, 2026

What's Happening Now

This week (April 13–17), we will keep excavating beneath the street, removing dirt and concrete (check out the photos below). An archaeologist will oversee the process and shoring for environmental safety. Shoring refers to installing supports to prevent the excavation sides from collapsing.

NOTE: We typically will not be doing work on Fridays, however, we will this week (April 17). We thank you for your patience.

What's Coming Up

Next week (April 20–23), we'll prepare the newly trenched area to be filled with lightweight cellular concrete after excavation is complete.

On the week of April 27th, we'll fill the trench with lightweight concrete. Since the area is above a peat bog with challenging soil, this concrete will support buses and regular traffic without environmental impact, according to SDOT’s Environmental Team.

What can you expect?

During construction, you can expect:

  • Slower traffic – you will only be able to drive on the north half of SW Barton St. Plan ahead when traveling in the area!
  • Closed sidewalks – you will not be able to enter Roxhill Park from the sidewalk on the south side of SW Barton. You can still enter the park from SW Roxbury.

Bus Route Changes

KC Metro has implemented detours to the C-Line and Route 21 and changes to bus stops. See our map below to learn more about the bus service changes.

Route 21 southbound buses to Westwood Village will turn from 35th Ave SW onto SW Trenton St, stopping at:

  • SW Trenton St east of 35th Ave SW
  • SW Trenton St at 29th/30th Ave SW
  • SW Trenton St just west of 25th Ave SW (north end of Westwood Village)

C-Line buses will leave SW Barton, head north on 35th Ave SW, then turn east onto SW Trenton St. Stops include:

  • 35th Ave SW & SW Trenton St
  • Between 29th and 30th Ave SW on SW Trenton St
  • After turning southbound on 25th Ave SW, just south of SW Henderson St

To leave Westwood Village on Rapid Ride C-Line or Route 21:

Board at the southbound stop on 25th Ave SW, just north of SW Barton St, at the southeast corner of Westwood Village.
