Route 40: Project Updates - January 23, 2026
Dear community members,
The Route 40 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor Project continues to make progress in the Fremont neighborhood and along NW Leary Way and 15th Ave NW as crews advance utility, sidewalk, and bus stop improvements.
This work will support faster, more reliable transit service, safer pedestrian access, and upgraded street infrastructure in the corridor. Below is the latest construction update and what to expect in the coming weeks.
Westbound NW Leary Way (West of 15th Ave NW)
Crews have completed trenching and electrical conduit installation for the bus stop features and have installed curbs for the new sidewalk. The concrete foundation has also been poured for the upgraded traffic signal at the northwest corner.
Next week, crews will:
- backfill trenches, grade, and install formwork
- pour concrete for the new bus stop features
- begin pouring the concrete sidewalk
Eastbound NW Leary Way (East of 15th Ave NW)
Crews have completed trenching and electrical conduit installation for the bus stop features. They have completed grading and installing the concrete formwork for the new roadway paving and foundations for the new bus stop features.
Next week, crews will:
- pour concrete for foundations for the new bus stop features
- pour concrete for the roadway panels and the curb at the bus stop
Construction continues to advance in the Fremont area as crews complete curb installation and underground electrical work for new bus stops and upgraded traffic signals.
Along Fremont Place N and N 35th St, crews are forming and pouring new sidewalks, curb ramps, and bus stop foundations, with additional concrete work scheduled to begin next week, weather permitting. This work will support improved pedestrian access, transit facilities, and signal operations at key intersections near Fremont Ave N and the Fremont Place N corridor.

Westbound Fremont Pl N, near the Lenin Statue
Crews have completed new curbs and the underground electrical conduits for the new bus stop.
Crews are currently working on:
- forming the foundations for the bus stop features
- grading for the new sidewalk
- pouring concrete for the bus stop foundations and sidewalk is expected to begin next week.
Northwest Corner and Northeast Corner of Fremont Ave N, Fremont Pl N and N 35th St
Crews have completed trenching and electrical conduit installation for the upgraded signals. Crews have also completed pouring the concrete curbs for the new sidewalk at the northwest corner.
Crews are currently working on:
- pouring concrete for the new curb ramps and sidewalk at the northwest corner. We expect to continue pouring concrete sidewalk at the northwest corner next week.
N 35th and Fremont Pl N (East of Fremont Ave N)
Crews have begun:
- pouring curbs, sidewalk, and curb ramps. They expect to continue this work next week.
Eastbound N 35th St (West of Fremont Ave N)
Crews have completed installing the electrical components for the bus stop features and have installed the form work for the bus stop feature foundations. Sidewalk from the southeast corner of the intersection has been installed.
Crews are scheduled to:
- pour concrete for the bus stop foundations next week and begin pouring the remaining sidewalk at the bus stop.

What to expect during construction
- Crews will demolish existing sidewalks and install new, wider sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps.
- Work will involve trenching for underground electrical conduit and concrete paving in some locations.
- Construction will take place along key blocks of Fremont Avenue N, N 36th St, N 35th St, and nearby intersections.
- Sidewalk closures and pedestrian detours will be in place. Please follow posted signs for the safest route.
- Some driveways and business access points may be temporarily impacted. Crews will coordinate closely with property owners to maintain access whenever possible.
- Noise, dust, and construction equipment will be present during work hours.
