Did You Know? Types of SMC Cases
The SMC is the largest limited jurisdiction court by case volume in Washington State. Our court handles:
- Misdemeanor cases—crimes that carry a maximum sentence of 90 days and a $1,000 fine.
- Gross misdemeanor cases—crimes that carry a maximum of 364 days and a $5,000 fine.
- Infractions—not legal crimes such as parking and traffic tickets.
- Civil offenses—ordinance violations filed by the city, such as housing and fire codes.

City Career Fair is hosting its 26th annual Community Employment Day Career Fair from 11 AM to 3 PM on Jan. 22, 2026, at the Seattle Center Armory, 305 Harrison St., Seattle.
This is a free career fair that will have in-person meetings, roundtables, and participating recruiters/employers such as the U.S. Postal Service, IKEA, the United Nations of All Tribes, King County's Department of Natural Resources and Parks, and more!

The Office of the Mayor and the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs partnered to create a resource guide that supports immigrant and refugee communities.
This guide offers information on one's legal rights, local resources, and family safety planning in English and Spanish.

Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle's Homebuyer Education Workshop
The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle hosts free five-hour workshops to assist home buyers in meeting the WA State Housing Finance Commission's "Here to Home" program.
These virtual workshops are typically held from 10 AM to 3:30 PM every 3rd and 4th Saturday of the month. The next upcoming virtual workshop dates are Jan. 17 and Jan. 24.
