Application Open for City of Seattle’s 2026 Technology Matching Fund Grants

The City of Seattle announces that the application for the 2026 Technology Matching Fund (TMF) is now open! Non-profit organizations and community groups with projects or programs focused on closing the digital divide and promoting digital literacy are encouraged to apply for matching grants of up to $45,000.

TMF provides grants of up $45,000 for eligible digital equity projects. A total of $455,000 has been allocated for this year’s awards. To receive funding, proposals must meet the community match requirement, which means applicants must contribute the equivalent of 25% of the requested funding amount through volunteer time, staff hours, donated materials, or cash contributions.

Seattle Earns National Recognition in Annual Digital Cities Awards

The Center for Digital Government (CDG) awarded the City of Seattle 4th-place honors in the 25th Annual Digital Cities Survey today. Seattle follows the cities of (#1) San Jose, CA; (#2) Los Angeles, CA; and (#3) San Diego, CA, and tying with Charlotte, NC, in the largest cities category of communities with populations over 500,000 residents.  

The Digital Cities Awards are the foremost awards program in local government, requiring a rigorous application process to prove work and impact for judging. For a quarter century, the Awards have recognized cities for their advancements in government services, cybersecurity readiness, and the use of emerging technologies to better serve their residents and businesses. This is the second consecutive year the City of Seattle has placed in the top four cities in the nation.  

Seattle was recognized for its innovative use of technology as it faces 21st-century urban challenges, including budget shortfalls, public safety and homelessness crises, and the need to reshape how cities adapt permitting and review processes affecting their built environment. This honor reinforces how Seattle has demonstrated strong strategic focus on the priorities identified by the Mayor and City Council in the City Budget— keeping people safe, addressing the community’s housing and homelessness challenges, creating solutions to health and addition crises, and partnering to create an economy where everyone has a chance to thrive in Seattle. Public-Private partnership provides internet access in South Park  

The City’s Access for All (AFA) program, part of Seattle IT’s Digital Equity Program, is an important public-private partnership with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) working to bridge the digital divide. Comcast, Astound Broadband and Lumen partner with the City to support local non-profit organizations working to provide technology and/or digital literacy services to underserved, low-income, or other vulnerable populations. These businesses are instrumental in helping connect the non-profits with free internet service, giving them the ability to have internet service to help connect clients/residents more fully participate in the expanding digital ecosystem.
