CPC Hosts Community Town Hall on Police Accountability

CPC Staff & Commissioners at the first Rainier Ave Radio Broadcast at Columbia City Theater

Today, Tuesday, October 21, the Seattle Community Police Commission (CPC), in partnership with Rainier Avenue Radio, will host a Town Hall on Police Accountability at Columbia City Theater. The event will take place from 6 to 8 PM and is free and open to everyone.

The town hall will give community members an opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, and take part in a conversation about police accountability in Seattle. The evening will begin with a land acknowledgment and an introduction to the CPC’s work, followed by a panel discussion and time for community Q&A. These conversations are part of the CPC’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that community voices guide policy, accountability, and reform in Seattle’s public safety system.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP to let us know they’re coming and share a question for the panel, which may be selected during the discussion. The Town Hall will also be offered in multiple languages through Webex, reflecting the CPC’s ongoing commitment to language access and ensuring that all community members can participate fully in conversations about accountability and public safety.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on Rainier Avenue Radio’s YouTube channel and broadcast on RainierAvenueRadio.world.

The CPC looks forward to connecting with community members and partners for this important discussion on transparency, accountability, and the shared goal of a safer Seattle.

Policy in Action

This month, the CPC Policy Team worked with CPC’s Legislative Workgroup to review the Office of the Inspector General’s (“OIG’s”) 2025 Workplan and several of its reports in preparation for drafting the CPC’s recommendations for the OIG 2026 Workplan. Some of these recommendations will build on the CPC’s previous requests for areas of focus, and the OIG’s responsive reporting on diversified crisis responses, like its recent report on CARE.

The Policy Team also facilitated a discussion between the Police Practices Workgroup (PPWG), and the Public Safety Chair, Councilmember Kettle, about the PPWG’s letter to Council asking it to decline extension of the Surveillance Technology Pilot. PPWG Commissioners reiterated the importance of elevating and considering the perspectives of individuals most impacted by public safety and policing when lawmakers are passing laws that will have the greatest impact on those communities.

In addition to assisting the CPC Team for its Rainier Avenue Radio Broadcast on Surveillance, the Policy Team and the Community Engagement Team also began engagement with community on the City’s proposed 2026 budget. The Policy Team continues to share community perspectives on the proposed budget for public safety with councilmembers and SPD.

Take the CPC's Community Feedback Survey

The CPC has launched a new Community Feedback Survey to hear directly from Seattle residents about their experiences and priorities for public safety. Your input will help guide the CPC’s recommendations, advocacy, and communication efforts as part of our ongoing community feedback loop.

This loop ensures that community voices continue to inform the CPC’s work and shape the conversations that move police accountability forward.

Connecting with Community

The Community Engagement Team uses every opportunity to connect with our community. Whether it is at public school board meetings, community council sessions, tabling events, or any other gathering place, we are there to engage with you. We also partner with radio and news platforms to reach a wider audience and ensure that everyone has access to important information.

Our mission is to raise awareness about the Community Police Commission (CPC) and the policing accountability system in Seattle. We encourage community members to actively share their thoughts, feedback, and concerns about policing practices. Community voices are essential in helping us strengthen and improve the system.

Community input is a critical resource that directly informs our recommendations for meaningful change in policing policies and practices. This is an ongoing effort, and we are committed to continuing this work in collaboration with the community to shape a safer and more inclusive Seattle. Together, we can make a lasting impact on public safety.
