Today: Mayor Harrell Launches New Responsible AI Plan and Community Innovation Hackathon Series

Seattle – Today, Mayor Bruce Harrell will announce the City’s new Responsible AI Plan, share updates on AI Pilots, and kick off a community hackathon series.

The City partnered with community, academia, and experts to develop its overall AI plan and 2nd-generation use policy, which sets focus, frameworks, and best practices prioritizing innovation partnerships and responsible use in the City’s adoption of AI. The approach builds on learnings from 40 AI pilots and improvements. Alongside the updated policy, the plan includes a new employee training and upskilling program, and responsible use toolkit.

The Community Innovation Hackathon Series will bring together students, entrepreneurs, technologists, City staff, and community to co-create AI-powered solutions to critical City priorities. The first hackathon will focus on Seattle’s Youth Connector initiative to make it easier for youth to participate in and access enrichment programs and mental health-supporting activities.

The press event will be from 10-11 AM, with the hackathon immediately following.

Press interested in attending should RSVP to Megan Erb. The event will be recorded by Seattle Channel and available online after the event here.
