TODAY: Seattle Marks Completion of Waterfront Park with Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting and All-Day Celebration
Seattle--Today, September 6, 2025, the City of Seattle will join Tribal leaders, regional leaders, Friends of Waterfront Park, and community partners to celebrate the official completion of Waterfront Park. A public ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 AM on Pier 58, followed by a day-long Grand Opening Celebration. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
Honoring a historic multi-billion-dollar investment and collaboration between the City and its partners, this marks the largest collection of civic projects built in Seattle since the 1962 World’s Fair. The new 20-acre park stretches along the waterfront from Belltown to Pioneer Square, transforming the former footprint of the Alaskan Way Viaduct into green spaces, cultural experiences, and public amenities for residents and visitors alike.
Following the ribbon cutting, a regional celebration will run from 11 AM to 9 PM, featuring more than 100 community partners and curators, with over 60 performances and activations across Pier 58, Pier 62, the 17-block Park Promenade, and Overlook Walk. More programming details can be found here.
