Cannonball Arts transforms Downtown into a creative powerhouse 🎨
🖼️🎶 Seattle welcomed Cannonball Arts, a vibrant new hub for contemporary art, music, fashion, and immersive experiences. A partnership between New Rising Sun and the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, the one-of-a-kind 66,000 square foot venue will host rotating exhibitions, live performances, and interactive events. Exhibits focus on PNW and Indigenous artists, offering a bold new look into the region’s rich cultural history.
Slated to open Wednesday, August 20, after an extensive remodel of the vacant Bed Bath & Beyond, Cannonball aims to become a Downtown anchor for creativity and community. Features blend museum-style galleries with playful installations that make art easy for all to enjoy. The project is a prime example of how empty storefronts are being transformed for good, turning into thriving cultural spaces that attract visitors and re-energize the Downton core.

🏀 This weekend, the Seattle Storm honored basketball icon Sue Bird by unveiling a bronze statue in her name, marking the first time a WNBA franchise has dedicated a statue to a player. 💚💛 Bird, who played her entire 21-year career with the Storm, led the team to four WNBA championships and will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame next month. In recognition of her incredible legacy, Mayor Bruce Harrell officially declared August 17 as "Sue Bird Day”: Seattle Storm unveil Sue Bird statue, first for WNBA player – The Seattle Times.
🌊 Planning your ideal Waterfront outing? The Port of Seattle suggested all their favorite spots for the perfect day, starting with a scenic sail aboard the schooner Bay Lady, followed by a café stop at Café Opla on Pier 66. Add a peaceful walk through Centennial Park and time exploring the new Waterfront Park, and you’ll be treating yourself to one of the most complete and beautiful days the Waterfront has to offer.
🌅 Seattle Times columnist Jon Talton highlights how years of work on the Waterfront has finally paid off. Street-level vacancies around the Waterfront have dropped by nearly 50% since 2023, while retail has grown 20%. Families are flocking to the play areas, locals are rediscovering Elliott Bay’s views, and visitors are filling the parks and promenades. The momentum is unmistakable: the Waterfront, “Seattle’s front porch,” is alive again with people, pride, and possibility.
