Honoring a Mariners legend

⚾🔱 It was a weekend full of celebrations for Ichiro Suzuki and his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Recognized as one of Major League Baseball’s all-time greats, Ichiro’s record-breaking achievements and dedication elevated Seattle’s presence on the global baseball stage.

To honor Ichiro’s extraordinary career, Mayor Bruce Harrell officially made August 9 "Ichiro Day" in Seattle. The proclamation celebrates not only his athletic excellence, but also his inspiring role as a community leader, bridging Japanese and American cultures and uplifting fans throughout the region. Making the day extra-special, Mariners held a special pre-game ceremony on August 9 to retire Ichiro’s iconic No. 51 jersey, cementing a legacy for the franchise and for Seattle: Mayor Harrell Proclaims August 9 as “Ichiro Day” – Office of the Mayor.
