ICYMI: City of Seattle Invites Public to Attend Summer Food Celebration Event on July 18

Seattle – Today, Mayor Harrell will join the City of Seattle's Human Services Department (HSD), Seattle Parks and Recreation Department (SPR), United Way King County and community members for the Summer Food Celebration, a family-friendly event highlighting the Seattle Summer Meals Program (officially the Summer Food Service Program). This free event will include free food, activities, games, resources for families, and information on how youth 18 and under can access summer meals at more than 40 locations across the city. Community partners and staff from HSD, SPR and United Way King County will be onsite to answer questions about the Summer Meals Program.

Press interested in attending should RSVP to Kamaria Hightower.

About Seattle’s Summer Meals Program:

Seattle’s Summer Meals Program is part of a long-standing effort to reduce food insecurity and support youth across the city, especially in under-resourced neighborhoods.  This initiative also supports the goals of the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger, an initiative supported by Mayor Bruce Harrell.

In coordination with HSD, SPR and United Way King County, the Summer Meals Program provides free, nutritious meals to children and teens ages 1-18 throughout the summer – helping fill the gap for families when school is out and access to school meals is paused.

For more information on the program, including meal schedules and location sites, please visit https://seattle.gov/Summer-Food.

About the Human Services Department: The City of Seattle Human Services Department (HSD) is a major contributor to Seattle's safety net, investing over $300 million in grants and contracts with a diverse network of community-based human service providers. The department works closely with the community to develop policies, plan, and deliver services that support and empower the city's most vulnerable individuals and families.
