💮 New Filipino heritage streetcar runs through Downtown 💮

Seattle’s streetcar now features a vibrant new design honoring Filipinotown and the community’s rich cultural history. Unveiled in celebration of Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the streetcar is now making its way around town, turning heads and sparking conversations: Celebrating “Filipinotown” addition to the Seattle Streetcar.

“The First Hill Streetcar is more than just transit – it’s a connection through some of Seattle’s most vibrant and historic neighborhoods. As the city’s steward of the streetcar and in close partnership with King County Metro, SDOT is proud to help celebrate the rich Filipino American history with the ‘Filipinotown’ update. It’s a meaningful reminder of the diverse communities that make Seattle so special,” said Adiam Emery, Interim Director, Seattle Department of Transportation.

🎶The Northwest Folklife Festival filled Seattle Center with music and dancing over the weekend. The 48th annual festival featured more than 4,000 performers across 20 stages, showcasing performances from over 150 cultural communities: Northwest Folklife Festival celebrates 'Ikigai' theme over Memorial Day weekend – KOMO News.


🍜 Eater Seattle compiled their list of the “Best Chinese and Taiwanese Restaurants in Seattle,” including some Downtown favorites:

  • Tai Tung Restaurant's menu is full of classics like chop suey and chow mein. Operating since 1935, it’s one of the oldest restaurants in the C-ID and frequented by many legends.
  • Ton Kiang Barbeque Noodle House offers a wide selection of meats and you can even reserve a whole roasted pig (if you call ahead).
  • Mike’s Noodle House serves up fast, affordable comfort food with a variety of broths, toppings, and fillings, letting you customize each bowl to your taste.
  • A+ Hong Kong Kitchen features a wide-ranging menu. From egg and spam sandwiches to noodle soups, there’s something to satisfy every taste.
  • Din Tai Fung serves famous soup dumplings alongside their shao mai, noodles, and rice dishes.

🏩 Mayor Bruce Harrell joined the Populus Seattle in opening the nation’s second carbon-positive hotel last week. Originally constructed in 1907, the Downtown hotel occupies the historic Westland Building and will remove more carbon than it emits: A ‘Carbon Positive’ Hotel is Opening in Seattle – Here’s a Look Inside – Forbes.

There’s a new way to get to the top of the Space Needle. Visitors can now travel to the top of the Seattle landmark in a double-decker elevator. The first-of-its-kind in North America, the elevator features floor-to-ceiling glass walls and offers even better views of the city: New Seattle Space Needle 'Skyliner' double-decker elevator lifts off – Fox13.

This weekend is your last chance to see Project 562: Changing the Way We See Native America at Tidelands, a Seattle Restored location. This powerful visual narrative of Native identity by Matika Wilbur features portraits and stories from hundreds of Tribal Nations across the country. The closing reception is Sunday, May 31 from 6 – 8 p.m.


Experience the Waterfront’s transformation in the first Meet Me at Waterfront Park 5K! 👟 The course takes runners and walkers along the waterfront, starting on Alaskan Way and finishing at the new Waterfront Promenade. Stick around after the race for a celebration packed with games and snacks. Join the fun this Sunday, May 31 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

🎵 Iconic movie scores come to life at Benaroya Hall. 📽️ The Seattle Symphony is celebrating 100 Years of Epic Film Scores with performances of scores from classic films. The symphony will perform music from beloved films like The Godfather, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jurassic Park. Catch the program this weekend, with performances starting Friday, May 30 and running through Sunday, June 1.
