We’re excited to share that we have finished the 3rd Ave S and Yesler Way project! The changes we made will make buses run more reliably and efficiently and the streets will be safer and more comfortable for people walking, biking, and rolling.

For the past few months, we transformed the intersection of 3rd Ave S and Yesler Way by:

  • Repairing the pavement
  • Installing electrical components underground for a pedestrian signal
  • Repainting the traffic lines on the roadway and bike lanes

We’ve also added:

  • Curb bulbs
  • Loading zones
  • Realigned curb ramps

And we’ve added separate crossings for people biking, walking, and rolling.

3rd Ave S and Yesler Way now includes wider and fixed sidewalks, a raised bike lane, new curb ramps, new trees, pedestrian lights, and signs to help people find their way.

The green panel on the bike lane that rosses the intersection is wider, with two directional arrows to help cyclists know their position.

Before: The green panel at the intersection is faded and the green color does not extend into the crosswalk.

After: The green panel on the bike lane that rosses the intersection is wider, with two directional arrows to help cyclists know their position. There are also green stripes across the street.

The plastic posts that once separated traffic on the shoulder of Yesler Way are now striped lines on the street

With all these changes, you can expect:

  • Safer, shorter crossings while walking and rolling across the street
  • Improved sidewalks for safer travel
  • Better ADA accessibility with the new pedestrian ramps
  • Physical separation between cyclists from drivers and pedestrians
  • New street trees and lighting that make the street more welcoming, safe, and green
  • Signs that help you figure out where you are and how to get where you are going

Thank you!

Thank you for your patience and continued interest in the 3rd Ave and Yesler Safety Improvements project!
