Seattle’s newly minted civic poet reads power

Dujie Tahat was inaugurated Tuesday as the city’s fifth Seattle Civic Poet, and spoke at the first ever ceremony of its kind hosted in city hall. Tahat leaned into their Filipino heritage to share a childhood memory in their original poem "After St. Paul’s Cathedral Burned Down Ma Still Drove Us To Mass" on the latest episode of Art Zone.

Others like Author and professor Peter Bacho! He recently discussed his book "Uncle Ricos Encore: Mostly True Stories of Filipino Seattle," a collection of autobiographical stories detailing the experiences of a Filipino cannery worker in Seattle from the 1950s and 1970s.

 

🚶 Pioneer Square upgrades connect pedestrians to waterfront

Pioneer Square underwent improvements that make it more pedestrian friendly and better connect the neighborhood to the new waterfront so residents and visitors alike can get around more safely. The changes also come just in time for the FIFA Club Team World Cup this summer and FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Seattle’s historic Labour Temple reimagined as a cultural hub

Organized workers found a home at Seattle’s Labor Temple for many years in the mid-1900s. Rebranded as the Labour Temple, the building now houses a coffee shop, salon, co-working facilities, and gallery spaces, but has been carefully renovated to reflect its art deco beginnings. ⁠
