Dear Community Members,

Construction continues along Westlake Ave as part of the Route 40 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor Project. These upgrades will improve transit reliability, pedestrian access, and street safety.

What's Happening in Westlake?

Halladay St and Westlake Ave This weekend, crews will be installing a temporary lighting circuit along Halladay St to maintain visibility and safety in the area while they work on the underground conduits. This work will allow backfilling and restoration of the sidewalks on the west side of Halladay St, ensuring that our construction efforts are not only efficient but also focused on maintaining accessibility for pedestrians.

Sidewalk Upgrades Near 8th Ave N and N Galer St Demolition and upgrades to the sidewalks at the intersection and extending north and south of 8th Ave N and N Galer St on the west side of Westlake Ave will continue through March and into early April.

Please expect detours for pedestrians and wheelchair users, along with temporary lane restrictions. These lane restrictions for traffic will occur intermittently and are expected to last through early May.

Aloha St and 9th Ave Crews are expected to start work at this location in late March or early April. Crews will perform trenching work for fiber optic conduits from the intersection that extend north along the west side of the parking lot adjacent to Westlake Ave.

8th Ave N and Ward Street Crews will be conducting trenching work to install fiber optic conduits for traffic signals, followed by the restoration of roadway and sidewalk. This work is scheduled to begin as early as April 3.

During this time, temporary lane restrictions may be implemented to facilitate construction activities, and pedestrians should expect detours to ensure safe passage.

What's Happening in Ballard?

Crews will begin working on the new concrete median islands on NW Ione Pl, NW Dock Pl, and 20th Ave NW. Work is expected to continue into April.

What's Happening in Fremont?

As part of this project, improvements in the Fremont neighborhood are scheduled to begin in Spring 2025. We look forward to continuing to work together to keep the community informed and ensure a smooth process for everyone who relies on Route 40.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to construction!
