Congratulations, Magistrate Weil!

Magistrate Noah Weil has been appointed to serve on the District and Municipal Court Judges’ Association's (DMCJA) Ethics Advisory Committee. The Washington State Supreme Court’s Administrative Committee approved his appointment, with his term concluding on Oct. 31, 2026.

2025 Legislative Session

Judge Faye R. Chess and Interpreter Services Strategic Advisor Luisa Gracia have been busy during this year's 105-day legislative session! Both women have provided testimony to committee members in both the state House and Senate in support of bills making their way through the legislative process at the Washington State Legislature.

Judge Chess represented SMC during her testimony in support of House Bill 1112. This piece of legislation would remove the city residency requirement for judges pro tempore in municipalities with a population of more than 400,000 people.

Gracia provided testimony in support of House Bill 1174. Gracia was not representing the court, but rather spoke on behalf of the Washington State Supreme Court Interpreters and Language Access Commission (ILAC). Luisa was the lead of ILAC's work in reviewing RCW 2.43 in 2022-23. HB 1174 aims to provide enhancements to current state law regarding the work of court interpreters.

The 2025 legislative session is due to conclude on April 27.
