MONDAY: Mayor Harrell Announces Proposal to Renew Seattle’s First-in-Nation Democracy Voucher Program 

SeattleOn Monday, Mayor Bruce Harrell will join a coalition of community leaders and civic engagement organizations to announce his proposal for a 10-year renewal of Seattle’s Democracy Voucher Program, which is expiring at the end of this year. 

Created by voters in 2015, the Democracy Voucher program aims to increase participation in local government by supporting campaigns for office. Seattle is the first city in the nation to enact this type of public campaign financing, and more than 106,000 residents have contributed to candidates for City office using vouchers since the program’s inception.
