Stone Way N, open to vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic

Stone Way N open to vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic

Stone Way N is OPEN!

Patience is a virtue that the Wallingford neighborhood has in spades. We know that having our project as a neighbor has been challenging at times. As we finish up our work, we want to say a big thank you to the Wallingford community for your support and patience over these last months.

We are happy to report that the section of Stone Way N between N 34th St and N 35th St has officially reopened! Our roadway construction in Wallingford is wrapping up and we will be clearing away equipment and detour signs in the coming days. However, there may still be some temporary lane closures in the coming months as we make final improvements. During those times, flaggers and signs will be there to help direct traffic safely.

We invite you to help us celebrate the reopening of Stone Way N by visiting the local businesses in Wallingford. It’s a great chance to explore what the neighborhood has to offer!

It’s an exciting time on the Ship Canal Water Quality Project as some aspects of the work finish and roads reopen. These are HUGE milestones for the project and we are thrilled to share them with you. Again, thank you for your patience as we work to complete this important project to protect public health, fish, wildlife, and the environment.

Safety reminder: Today is Halloween! That means there will be a lot more people out on the streets tonight. Please be aware of your surroundings - whether you’re walking, driving, or riding - so that everyone can stay safe and have fun. Thank you once again for your understanding and support!

Ballard

Work at the Ballard site has been minimal over the summer as the site awaits the next contractor. The Pump Station and Ballard Conveyance contractor is expected to begin work in early November by conducting potholing work in various locations. We’ll be sending a notification to impacted areas in the coming week.

East Ballard

We have reopened NW 45th St between 11th Ave NW and 9th Ave NW along with fully opening the Burke Gilman Trail (BGT) in its original location. Periodic temporary lane closures may still be necessary over the coming month, and flaggers will assist with traffic during those times. Restoration work is continuing so crews will still be in the area and there may be occasional one lane closures with flaggers as work wraps up.

You should anticipate:

  • Heavy equipment in the area
  • Noise and vibrations typical of a construction site

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7 am - 4 pm.

Fremont

Crews continue installing equipment inside the shaft and buried utilities at the site. They also continue installing mechanical and electrical systems inside the vault in N 36th St.

Lane restrictions in Leary Way NW will continue through November for final paving. Last week, the contractor completed restoration on the north half of Leary Way and this week they began restoration of the eastbound lanes in the south half of Leary Way.

Local closures and detours:

  • On 2nd Ave NW, between Leary Way NW and NW Canal St, the street remains closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until early 2025
  • NW Canal St is open to two-way traffic during this closure
  • NW 36th St, between Leary Way NW and 3rd Ave NW, remains closed until early 2025
  • Pedestrian detours are in place on Leary Way NW; please follow all detour guidance

You should anticipate:

  • Truck traffic on Leary Way NW as trucks bring materials and equipment to and from the site
  • Trucks entering and leaving the site
  • Fans running during work hours to provide fresh air to crews working in the shaft
  • Heavy equipment in the area
  • Noise and vibrations typical of a construction site

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 am - 6 pm, and some Saturdays from 9 am - 6 pm.

Wallingford

The section of Stone Way N between N 34th and N 35th Streets has officially reopened! Our construction work in this area is wrapping up and we will be clearing away equipment and detour signs in the coming days. Periodic temporary lane closures may still be necessary over the coming months, and flaggers will assist with traffic during those times.

N 34th St at Stone Way N, including the left turn lane from N Northlake Way onto westbound N 34th St has reopened as well.

Daytime lane closures continue on N 35th St for several more weeks to complete utility work. Eastbound and westbound traffic will shift to the southern part of the road, and the parking lane will temporarily serve as the eastbound travel lane. As a result, parking is prohibited for several feet along the south side of N 35th St near Interlake Ave N, and any vehicles parked there will be subject to towing. Flaggers will direct traffic around the work zone during the day, with one lane in each direction open during evenings and weekends.

Interlake Ave N is closed at N 35th St. Vehicle access south of N 36th St will be limited to local traffic only.

Utility work in the roadway is planned to be complete by mid-November and final paving on N 35th St near Interlake Ave N may start as soon as Nov 18 and will continue for approximately 4 weeks.

Within the site at the northeast corner of N 35th St and Interlake Ave N, crews continue to install equipment inside the mechanical and odor control rooms in the shaft, build the above-ground electrical building, and install utilities. Construction of the rock wall along the north and east sides of the site will begin in mid-November.

You should anticipate:

  • Trucks coming in and out of the site
  • Vibrations typical of a construction site
  • Road and periodic sidewalk closures

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am - 6 pm. Night and weekend work may occur periodically.

Queen Anne

Last week crews installed bollards on the Ship Canal Trail and this week abandoned a pipe near 3rd Ave W. The Ship Canal Trail is open in its original configuration with local detours as crews complete minor work.

Local closures and detours:

  • Potential localized Ship Canal Trail detour in coming months as needed. Please continue to remain alert when moving through this area

You should anticipate:

  • Trucks coming in and out of the site

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7 am - 4 pm.
