Yuri Kinoshita’s light fixtures are more than just functional — they’re sculptural masterpieces inspired by the beauty of empty spaces, shrines, and breezes. Art Zone recently visited her to learn about her process. Catch her stunning creations at the Kyoto Art & Antiques fall show that starts today, Oct. 24 and runs through Nov. 3 in Georgetown!

 

Zapotec culture and tradition lives in Fulgencio Lazo's art

In his vibrant new show of painting and sculpture, Fulgencio Lazo honors the textile traditions and ancestral stories of the Zapotec people in Oaxaca that his mother taught him when he was a child. The art form has been passed down for over 2,000 years as a way to preserve culture and history. His show, "Tejiendo Historias / Weaving Stories," runs now through Nov. 16 at ArtX Contemporary.

The folks at Gage Academy of Art believe artists are made, not born. From their new custom-built, state-of-the-art campus in the South Lake Union neighborhood, they're expanding their teaching reach to a wider and more diverse group of artists working at all levels.
