Your Levy dollars are hard at work! Here is a roundup of recent blog posts and updates that highlight a few of the projects around town that Levy dollars make possible.
- We’ve completed construction on upgrades to the 4th Ave protected bike lane in downtown Seattle as part of the 4th Ave Mobility Improvements project.
- This included installing stronger concrete curbs to better separate people biking from people driving, improving travel safety and predictability for everyone.
- We’re not just building bike lanes – we’re building community connections. This project strengthens the Center City Bike Network in and around downtown Seattle, providing more options for people to travel where they want to go.
_______
- We’ve completed major construction for the Route 48 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor Project. Construction kicked off in March to support more reliable trips for people riding the Route 48 bus.
- The project offers several important features and benefits:
-
Signal upgrades for buses New “smart signals” at 14 intersections that activate or extend green lights for buses traveling through the corridor (signals activated on a rolling basis through early 2025).
-
Bus travel improvements: Southbound bus-only lane between S Massachusetts St and S Grand St and a bus-only left turn lane from southbound 23rd Ave S to Rainier Ave S to improve bus reliability.
-
Boyer Ave E walking and biking improvements: New ADA-accessible curb ramps, upgraded crossing signals with better visibility that give people a head start, and improved walking and biking connections to the Central Area Neighborhood Greenway, the Arboretum, and the Montlake Neighborhood
- The upgraded route helps students get to the University of Washington, Montlake Elementary, Holy Names Academy, Meany Middle School, Garfield High School, Washington Middle School, Thurgood Marshall Elementary, and other community resources by bus.
- You’ll also have better access to the upcoming RapidRide G Line and light rail stations in Mount Baker, Judkins Park, Capitol Hill, University of Washington, and the U District.
_______
- The RapidRide G Line – Madison St Project is one of our largest and most complex capital projects to date, made possible through a combination of sources, including the Levy to Move Seattle.
- SDOT’s project fixed sidewalks, added new walk and bike signals, rebuilt utilities, and created a street design to keep traffic at slower, safer speeds next to schools, small businesses, libraries, and hospitals.
- August 29th's ribbon-cutting ceremony marks the culmination of project construction to maintain and modernize Madison St into a safer street designed for people walking, rolling, and taking the bus. The new design ensures everyone – from schoolchildren to seniors – sees their main street as welcoming and comfortable.
- King County Metro’s new RapidRide G Line bus service begins on September 14, connecting Downtown Seattle with First Hill, Capitol Hill, Central District, and Madison Valley.

On the Horizon
Here are some highlights you can expect from the levy in the upcoming months:
-
Ballard Bridge and 15th Ave W/NW Paving Project Construction:
- 15th Ave W/NW and the Ballard Bridge is one of the City’s most heavily used arterial streets. Repaving 15th Ave W/NW (between NW 57TH and W Emerson St) and the approach spans for the Ballard Bridge will restore the pavement condition of a critical piece of Seattle’s arterial network, as well as make 15th Ave NW safer and friendlier for people walking, biking, and rolling.
- During construction, expect partial street and bridge closures. Construction is expected to continue through 2025. For more information on closures, please see the project webpage here or sign up for email updates.
- Construction of the Beacon Ave S and 15th Ave S Safety Project continues:
-
11th Ave NE and 12th Ave NE Paving continues:
- Throughout September, our crews will continue to work on paving and sidewalk repairs to improve the corridor in alignment with our Vision Zero initiative to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030.
- On Monday, Sept. 16 and Tuesday, Sept. 17, we will pave the east side of 11th and 12th Aves NE between NE 50th St and NE 66th St. This work will happen overnight between 7 PM and 5 AM and includes bus stop closures and detours for Metro Route 67, 73, 522. Thank you to everyone for their understanding about overnight work.
