Thank you for your patience as we continue construction on the 15th Ave W/NW corridor and Ballard Bridge.
Below we have outlined the work we will do over the next few weeks and what to expect in terms of travel, noise, and other impacts. Anticipated work locations may change as crews demolish, install, and complete improvements as efficiently as possible.
Businesses remain open during construction. Please support Ballard businesses by shopping locally!

Starting as early as Monday, August 12, crews will begin overnight work at the 15th Ave NW and NW Market St intersection. This work will be overnight Monday – Friday from 7 PM – 5 AM to minimize traffic impacts. Neighbors should expect nighttime work to last at least one week. This work will involve digging trenches for cables in preparation for upgraded traffic signals and traffic cameras at the 15th Ave NW and NW Market St intersection.
-
As part of our nighttime work at the 15th Ave NW and NW Market St intersection, we will temporarily reduce driving lanes in each direction. Turn lanes in each direction will still be available. A uniformed police officer may be present to help direct traffic. Detour signs will be in place to direct people walking around construction.
Crews continue to work on the west side of 15th Ave NW between NW 58th St and NW Market St. Crews will also soon begin demolition at the corners of the 15th Ave NW and NW Market St intersection. This construction is scheduled Mondays – Fridays from 7 AM – 5 PM. Through this work, crews will upgrade the ADA accessible ramps, rebuild sidewalk corners, and repair the sidewalk and roadway in select areas.
-
There will be two driving lanes of 15th Ave NW open in each direction except from 9 AM – 2 PM when there may be only one lane open in each direction. We will close the sidewalk in the areas where we're working on 15th Ave NW between NW 58th St and NW 54th St. There will be detour signs in place to direct you around construction.
-
We will close NW 57th St and NW 56th St to thru traffic as needed between 17th Ave NW and 14th Ave NW. You will still be able to walk, roll, bike, or drive to businesses and homes on these streets.
-
We will temporarily move the D Line bus stops at 15th Ave NW and NW Market St. Please see bus stops for new locations and/ or sign up for transit alerts.
-
We will temporarily change parking in some areas for construction staging and traffic control near work sites.
Partial bridge closures are scheduled Monday evenings - Friday mornings 7 PM - 8 AM. Overnight closures of Ballard Bridge for pavement restoration will continue through the week of August 12.
Crews will complete preliminary paving, maintenance, and preservation work to keep the 107-year-old bridge safe and strong. The remaining bridge work will be completed during the full bridge closures scheduled over several weekends this fall.
As a reminder, detour routes will be in place for people who drive or use transit. We’ll do our best to keep the bridge open for people walking, rolling, and biking unless it’s unsafe. We’ll share more details about detour routes and how to get around during full bridge closures in a future update.
For our overnight bridge work, we need to temporarily close some lanes of traffic, move a couple of bus stops, and close one side of the walking, rolling, and biking path.
