We’re continuing construction on the 15th Ave W/NW corridor and the Ballard Bridge. Below we have outlined the work we will do over the next few weeks and what to expect in terms of travel, noise, and other impacts.

Construction crews install new sidewalks and roadway on the southeast corner of 15th Ave NW and NW 57th St.
Crews continue to work on the east side of 15th Ave NW between NW 57th St and NW 56th St. Crews are also moving to work on the west side of 15th Ave NW between NW 57th St and NW Market St and to the east side of 15th Ave NW between NW 56th St and NW Market St.
Construction work will be done Mondays - Fridays from 7 AM - 5 PM
Construction crews are upgrading the ADA accessible ramps, rebuilding the corners, and repairing the sidewalk and roadway in select areas.
-
There will be two lanes open in each direction except from 9 AM to 2 PM when there may be only one lane open in each direction.
-
We will close NW 57th St and NW 56th St to traffic as needed from 14th Ave NW to 17th Ave NW.
-
We will close the sidewalk in the areas where we're working on 15th Ave NW between NW 58th St and NW 56th St. There will be detour signs in place to direct you around construction.
-
You will hear noise, see dust, and feel vibrations during work hours.
-
We will have construction staging and traffic control that may affect parking near work sites.

Partial bridge closures are scheduled Monday evenings - Friday mornings 7 PM - 8 AM
To help reduce potential construction delays on the bridge and complete the maintenance needed, we have updated the partial bridge closures schedule. We’ll continue to provide updates if further construction schedule adjustments are needed to help keep the project on track while we also balance the needs of the traveling public. The new partial bridge closure schedule is listed
Construction crews are doing paving, maintenance and preservation work to keep this 107-year-old bridge safe and strong. For our bridge work, we need to temporarily close some lanes of traffic, move a couple of bus stops, and close one side of the walking, rolling, and biking path.
-
8 AM – 7 PM The bridge will operate normally, with two lanes open in both directions.
-
7 PM - 10 PM: We will close two driving lanes on the bridge, leaving one lane open in each direction.
-
10 PM - 5 AM: We will close the bridge to southbound traffic, leaving one lane open in the northbound direction. If you are driving southbound at this time, please take the Aurora Bridge.
-

-
6 AM – 8 AM: We will close one driving lane on the bridge, leaving two southbound lanes open and one northbound lane open.
If you are riding south on the D Line bus...
-

On the south end of the bridge, the D Line bus stop at 15th Ave W and W Emerson St will be moved south on 15th Ave NW. It will be right across from W Ruffner St.
-
There are no changes to the D Line bus stops if you are riding north and all bus routes and stops return to normal outside of the 10 PM - 5 AM window.
-
We encourage you to follow King County Metro’s service advisories and sign up for transit alerts to stay informed.
If you are walking, rolling, or biking...
-
7 PM - 6 AM: We will close the path on the east side of the bridge for people who walk, roll, or bike. If you are traveling across the bridge at this time, please use the path on the west side.
-
If you are traveling south, please cross at Leary Way NW.
-
If you are walking north, please use the stairs on the east side of 15th Ave W to cross under the bridge and get to the path on the west side. See map below.
-
For anyone rolling or biking north, you can detour by taking the RapidRide D Line bus north from bus stop #14190 at 15th Ave W and W Emerson St.

We acknowledge there were a couple of unexpected delays reopening the bridge after our night work and we appreciate everyone’s patience while our crews safely completed their work. It is a challenging task removing pavement in such poor condition, and the construction team discovered that an unexpected amount of hand cleanup was needed to clear debris off the roadway.
Our construction crews are now prepared to address clean-up needs, and we are working with the SDOT Transportation Operations Center to better communicate future delays. Thank you to everyone who shared your concerns by calling or emailing the project inbox.
