South Spokane Viaduct Deck Rehabilitation Project Updates
We’re getting ready to repair the South Spokane Viaduct
We’re slated to begin construction on the South Spokane Street Viaduct as soon as July 29, 2024! We thank you for your patience as we worked with our contractor on the schedule. In the coming weeks, we will provide updates on our South Spokane St Viaduct webpage, but you can also sign up for email updates here.
We will continue to provide updates on pre-construction activities on our project webpage and via these email updates. Please feel free to share this email with your neighbors and encourage them to sign up for our email updates so that they can stay informed about the project.
When Work Begins and What to Expect
The work will take place between July and September 2024. The majority of our work will take place over five weekends, during which we will need to close the bridge to all traffic for the entire weekend (i.e., from 10 PM on Friday until 5 AM on Monday). The full closure of the bridge will mean that people traveling to or from West Seattle or into SODO will need to adjust their routes accordingly. The weekday closures occur primarily in the night-time, to be less negatively impactful to typical commutes, bus routes, deliveries, etc. However, for those people who are traveling during those times on the Viaduct, you will need to adjust your routes to reach destinations. You can see what the detours are below, as well as the corresponding dates:

To keep SSV in good shape, we are dedicating the money, time, and labor to repair the road surface. This Deck Rehabilitation project will replace the existing road surface to fix cracks and weak areas. We will be adding a top layer of polyester coating to the road surface, which will be more durable. We will also update the scuppers so that water can drain from the road surface, making it safer to drive.
Thank you for your interest in the South Spokane Street Viaduct project. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
