LEVY TO MOVE SEATTLE | Your Levy Dollars at Work in May

Thank you for your interest in the Levy to Move Seattle.

Mayor Harrel and SDOT Director Spotts

Mayor Bruce Harrell and SDOT Director Greg Spotts joined construction crews working on the 11th/12th Ave NE Paving and Safety Project.

Your Levy dollars are hard at work! Here is a roundup of recent blog posts and updates that highlight a few of the projects around town that Levy dollars make possible.

Maintaining & Modernizing: 11th/12th Ave NE safety project & Rapid Ride J

  • There are two big projects getting underway: the RapidRide J Line project and the 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE Paving & Safety Project
  • Together, these projects maintain and modernize streets and utilities and improve safety for all, while helping the climate by making bus service and bike lanes even better.
  • The J Line project brings bus riders more frequent and reliable bus service improving access to the Roosevelt and University District Link light rail stations and connecting the U District, Eastlake, South Lake Union, Belltown, and Downtown Seattle neighborhoods.
  • The projects fill major stretches of the citywide bike network from northeast Seattle into South Lake Union connecting people to existing protected bike lanes in Downtown and beyond.
  • We’re coordinating construction to help manage impacts to the traveling public, businesses, and freight.
  • Sign up to receive email updates to stay informed throughout construction.

We’re on track to strengthen 16 bridges across Seattle to be safer during an earthquake

  • Our Bridge Seismic Program helps us proactively strengthen our existing bridges all across the city to make them more resilient in the case of a major earthquake.
  • We’re on track to complete 16 bridge seismic retrofits thanks to the Levy to Move Seattle.
  • We’ve already completed 5 of these seismic retrofit projects as part of the Levy to Move Seattle, and we’re on track to complete 11 more, with major work taking place this year.
  • Progress continues on the McGraw St Bridge seismic retrofit, which began construction in March, and the Delridge Way Pedestrian Bridge seismic retrofit, which began construction in April.

On the Horizon

Here are some highlights you can expect from the levy in the upcoming months:

  • MLK Jr Way Safety Project construction continues. Throughout June, we are:
    • June 11 - 14: Installing curb bulbs on S Walker St to S McClellan St, and doing electrical work and pouring concrete for sidewalks along Rainier Ave S.
    • June 17 - 21: Crews will do property restoration work, including topsoil and seeding, throughout the corridor. Roadway striping throughout the corridor is tentatively scheduled.
  • Rapid Ride G - Madison St project passed the 90% completion threshold. All major roadway construction is done, and we’ll continue working on a few sidewalk segments, carrying out some patch work, and making touch-ups along the nearly 2.5-mile-long stretch of roadway
    • Service is on track to begin September 14, 2024.
  • Georgetown to South Park Connection Project: The process to select a contractor is underway as we prepare to begin construction later this year! Here’s a summary of the changes we’ll be making soon:

    • New or repaved sidewalks, protected bikes lanes, walking and biking paths, and interim paint and post curbs.

Thank you making this work possible through the Levy to Move Seattle.
