Liberty Project Inaugural Cohort Announced 🎉
Fourteen local businesses were selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of The Liberty Project.
The Liberty Project is a new, innovative business growth project that is working to increase revenues for businesses owned by people from underrepresented communities in Seattle-particularly Black-owned businesses.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, meaning businesses can still apply.

We are thrilled to welcome two new people to our office!
Kiah Patzkowsky, Special Events Program Manager Kiah Patzkowsky will be joining the OED as the Special Event Program Manager with nearly two decades of event management experience across several Seattle institutions. She got her start at The Vera Project before working for One Reel and the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival.
For nearly a decade, she served as a Senior Event Representative at Seattle Center, leading events such as PrideFest, Northwest Folklife, Pokemon GO Fest, and more! When she's not working, Kiah enjoys the outdoors, art, food, and attending OL Reign matches. Welcome, Kiah!

Diem Ly, Division Director As the Division Director, Diem will lead the Small Business and Workforce Development Divisions. She will provide strategic direction and development of the programs in these divisions, including planning, performance management and accountability.
Diem comes to OED from Comcast NBCUniversal where she served as the Director of Community Impact and External Affairs for the Pacific Northwest. She brings 15 years of corporate and community experience to this new role. Learn more about Diem and how she'll help lead our office.

Join us for the inaugural Creative Economy Career Day! In partnership with the Office of Arts and Culture, we're hosting the free, one-day education program on Friday, February 9 at McCaw Hall.
Creative Economy Career Day connects young people, ages 14-24, with direct access to creative industry professionals through networking, engaging workshops, and interactive demos.
Participants will be able to explore a wide range of career opportunities in various creative industries, including audio, visual, business, and technology.

Free Legal Clinics for Small Businesses
Our partner Communities Rise is offering free legal clinics for small businesses on service contracts.
The online training on January 31 will cover what service contracts are, when to use them, and common mistakes to avoid.
There will be sample service contracts and documents with explanations of key parts of the contract. Registration is free!
