Happy National Walk and Roll to School Day! Students at Wing Luke Elementary cross the street with help from the School Patrol. Our Safe Routes to School program is funded in part with Levy to Move Seattle dollars.
Your Levy dollars have been hard at work this year. Here is a roundup of recent blog posts that highlight a few of the many projects around town that Levy dollars have made possible.
_____
As part of the Levy-funded Route 44 project, we built (or replaced) 78 curb ramps to improve access to transportation and improve safety for people of all abilities; added 0.8 miles of bus-only lanes to improve transit reliability and reduce transit travel times; repaired 3,970 linear feet of sidewalk to improve access to transportation; repaired and replaced 27 crosswalks to improve access to buses and safety for people crossing roads; and installed 3 new pedestrian signals.
- Thank you, Seattle! The Route 44 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor project is one of seven transit corridors that we are improving thanks to the Levy to Move Seattle.
- During the past nearly 2 years we’ve partnered with King County Metro to improve transit reliability, reduce transit travel times, and enhance pedestrian safety and access along the Route 44 corridor in Ballard, Phinney Ridge, Wallingford, and the U District.
- As you’re traveling from Ballard to the U District along Route 44, you will see many improvements, including:
- Dedicated bus lanes, signal upgrades, and changes in roadway design to allow buses to move more reliably, avoid conflicts, and improve safety.
- Safety improvements and sidewalk upgrades for safer walking and rolling to transit stops
- Improved connections to two RapidRide routes (E and D Lines) and Sound Transit’s U District and University of Washington light rail stations
- Thank you to the Ballard, Phinney Ridge, Wallingford, and U District neighbors for your patience as crews worked to construct these improvements for people walking, biking, and riding the bus.

- We’ve completed the final design of the 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE Paving & Safety Project! We are adding to our citywide bicycle network, connecting people to homes and businesses, and making it safer to walk, roll, and bike through this busy area.
- The project will include:
- Freshly repaved streets between NE 43rd St and NE 67th St
- New northbound, 1.2-mile protected bike lane on the east side of 11th Ave NE and 12th Ave NE.
- New raised protected bike lanes at bus stops
- Repaired sidewalks and curb ramps to improve mobility for people of all abilities
- Improved crosswalks and traffic signals to make crossing the street safer
- And more!
- Construction expected to begin in winter 2023 and continue into 2025.
- This project is part of our Vision Zero goal to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030, and is funded in part by the voter-approved Levy to Move Seattle. Thank you, Seattle!

Slow the Flock Down! Keeping kids safe is a community effort. Respect the speed limit as well as street closures for School Streets and Healthy Streets. Encourage others to do the same by picking up free Slow the Flock Down yard signs.
