Your Levy dollars have been hard at work this year. Here is a roundup of recent blog posts that highlight a few of the many projects around town that Levy dollars have made possible.

_____

Planning is underway for new, safer streets to walk, bike, and bus to future Link station at NE 130th St and I-5

  • With a new Sound Transit Link light rail station opening at NE 130th St near I-5 in 2026, we’re planning for necessary transit, bike, and pedestrian improvements to provide safer and more efficient access by all modes in this growing area.
  • Our NE 130th St & NE 125th St Mobility and Safety Project has entered the early planning stage and we’re ready to share some initial design proposals for specific, community-requested project elements that will help improve facilities for people traveling to and around the new station.

New protected bike lane installation on Eastlake Ave E in South Lake Union between E Galer St and E Roy St

  • Work on the north segment of the Eastlake Layover Facility Mobility Improvements project began in August, bringing protection to existing bike lanes as well as other improvements for people walking, biking, rolling, and taking transit along Eastlake Ave E next to I-5 in South Lake Union.
  • Project elements: In addition to new protected bike lanes, a crosswalk, and narrowing the street to help calm traffic.
  • This project is part of our work to deliver on the City-approved Seattle Bicycle Master Plan. To see how these new protected bike lanes will connect with existing and future bike lanes in the area, check out our map below

Beacon Hill Bike Route: Completed safety enhancements + 60% design of the bike route

  • We recently reached the 60% design milestone for the Beacon Ave S & 15th Ave S Safety Project! Check out the full 60% design plan.
  • By incorporating community feedback on our 30% design, we were able to make the following design updates, as well as complete construction on near-term enhancements so that we don’t need to wait for the rest of the project to be implemented.
  • Since announcing our 30% design, we have completed near-term safety enhancement projects, including speed cushions on 15th and 14th Aves S, a rapid-flashing beacon at the 14th/15th/Golf intersection, paint-and-post curb bulbs to make crossing the street easier, pavement repairs and more.
  • New features of our 60% design include: identification of sidewalk repair locations, and bike signal and detection upgrades; updated curb cuts in bike buffer along project route, and partnership with Seattle Public Utilities to upgrade drainage along 15th Ave S.

RapidRide G Update: Channelization and Striping in Downtown

We continue to make steady progress and thank everyone for their continued patience during construction. In an homage to the beautiful nature in our state, here’s what we accomplished in the month of July.

  • We've built 4,584 square yards of cement roadway and sidewalk. This is equal to 2.6 miles, the same length as the Heybrook Lookout hike in the Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest.
  • We've removed 3,101 square yards of existing pavement. This is equivalent to 1.8 miles, the same length as the Marymere Falls hike in Olympic National Park.
  • We've laid 4,771 feet if conduit for signals, street lighting, and electrical services - that's 571 feet longer than the height of the tallest waterfall in the continental United States (also in our very own North Cascades National Park).
  • We've built 1,128 feet of cement concrete curbing which is about 6 times the height of the Quinault giant Sitka spruce (the tallest Sitka spruce in the world!)

Construction of the project is about 65% complete! We’ll continue to share information on our progress and will update our estimated percent complete number later this fall. We expect construction to be complete by summer 2024.
